Starting Thursday, more than 5,000 immigrants in Minnesota will lose access to federally funded Medicaid health coverage following changes enacted in a sweeping tax and spending bill signed into law in July by President Donald Trump.

The law ends Medicaid eligibility for many immigrants with legal status who do not yet have green cards, including refugees and asylum seekers. It affects hundreds of thousands of immigrants across the country.
